While medical services continue to be our primary mission, viable employment for musicians is a crucial aspect of their overall mental health, well being and survival.
Immediately following the levee failures of Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Musicians Clinic began funding musicians to perform in a variety of settings. In order to expand on our ongoing efforts to ‘keep the music alive’, we developed The Gig Fund to provide matching funds to local non-profits and to encourage those organizations to include music in future event budget. This program not only sustains musicians until the tourism industry completely rebounds, but it also provides musicians additional work opportunities so they may continue to perpetuate our culture through performance and education.
The Gig Fund is one more way the NOMC is ‘keepin’ the music alive’!
